Post Insurance was originally formed in 1979 when Bob Post became a licensed agent for Nationwide Insurance. Bob's daughter and current Agency Owner, Kathy Post, joined the agency in 1985 when she was in college, later becoming a licensed agent for Nationwide Insurance and a Managing Partner for Post Insurance. Bob's youngest daughter, Becky Post, joined the agency in 2003 and is the Vice-President of Business Operations. Kathy became the Agency Owner in 2007 when Bob retired. Together Kathy and Becky lead one of the largest insurance agencies on the Treasure Coast.
What makes Post Insurance different?
They believe strongly in creating a positive environment for their employees. They attract career-minded professionals and incorporate the pillars of recognition, reward, and active listening for their staff. Post Insurance was named 'Best Place to Work on the Treasure Coast' by Indian River Magazine in 2019. Happy employees make happy customers!
They give back to the community. They support non-profit, civic, and faith-based organizations to improve the quality of life for all who make the Treasure Coast home.
Bob began the Post Agency in his living room. Not long after, he was able to open his first official office in the Citizen's Federal Bank Building on US 1 (now demolished). A year later, Bob relocated the agency to the very first shopping plaza on US 1 in Port St. Lucie, Mangrove Square, and operated there for nearly 20 years. The Post kids grew up in the family business and, as the eldest, it was Kathy who was most influenced by seeing her dad help so many people.
Kathy joined the agency as a licensed agent right out of high school while pursuing her college degree in Business from Indian River State College and Barry University. In the early years, Kathy devoted herself for ten years to educating youth about the dangers of drinking and driving with the Nationwide Insurance Prom Promise program. She spearheaded a scholarship program and collaborated with the Sheriff's Office and Superintendent of Schools.
As St. Lucie County expanded, Post saw a need to re-locate to the then new development of St. Lucie West. They built the second office building in all of St. Lucie West, breaking ground in 1996 and moving in 1997 where they still reside.
Like the rest of the Post kids, Becky did her share helping out at the agency filing and answering phones growing up. She joined the family business in 2003 when the changing needs of the agency and the insurance marketplace called for her expertise in communication, marketing, strategic planning, management, and technology. Becky is the Vice-President of Business Operations and oversees the internal business needs of the agency. Agencies around the country have benefited from her Master's Degree in Communication and her leadership skills as former National Trainer for the Nationwide Insurance Training Program in Columbus, Ohio. Her focus in the agency is in researching ways to best serve customers, reduce waste, and maximize efficiency. This has included taking the agency paperless to reduce their carbon footprint, the adoption of an e-signature solution to offer convenience to customers, and connecting the agency to remote locations. As sisters, Kathy and Becky are perfect complements. Theirs is a balance of personality and perspective based on mutual respect as sisters, leaders, and friends.
In 2005, the agency celebrated its 25th year of doing business in St. Lucie County. In celebrating this special event, the agency reviewed their impact on their clients and the local economy. They found that in the 25 years they had been in business, the companies they represented paid out approximately $25 million to their clients for claims. This meant the agency was contributing on average of $1million per year in claims payouts to help local residents overcome losses and get back on their feet. This was a substantial financial impact, since that claim money was then spent with local contractors on repairs, in local retail stores to replace contents, or with other local small businesses for goods and services.
This number underscores the magnitude of the Hurricanes of 2004 & 2005. In those 2 years alone, the companies they represented paid out an additional $25 million to their clients. This was the equivalent of the totality of all prior 25 years of claims.
Post Insurance and their staff regularly support local non-profit, civic, and faith-based organizations. Kathy Post has received the United Way of St. Lucie County Spirit of St. Lucie Community Angel Award, the National Community Service Award from Nationwide Insurance, and the John Carroll High School Alumna of the Year Award for her commitment to the community.
Bob retired in 2006. He was honored by Senate President, Ken Pruitt, with the Senate Medallion of Excellence. Kathy purchased the business and became the sole owner of Post Insurance.
In 2008, Kathy Post and Post Insurance celebrated a new milestone as it transitioned from an exclusive Nationwide Insurance agency to an Independent Agency representing Nationwide Insurance along with a large portfolio of many high-quality insurance companies.
In December 2009, Post officially celebrated its 30th year in business in St. Lucie County.
Another major milestone occurred on January 1, 2010 when Post Insurance & Financial, Inc. acquired the SM Fines Insurance agency from retiring local agent Susan Fines. The SM Fines office was located on PSL Blvd and was kept open for three-years. The PSL Blvd location was consolidated into the main office in St. Lucie West in 2012.
To better reflect it's ability to serve all customers, Post Insurance unveiled its new 'Key to Peace of Mind' logo in 2013. In 2014, Post Insurance celebrated their 35th anniversary.
Post Insurance marked 4 decades of protecting residents and businesses throughout Florida in 2019.
