How do I file a Claim (FAQ)

After the Storm - How to file a Claim?

Any claim, no matter how small, is a disruption in the normal routine of life.  As your agent, we are here to serve as a liaison during the claims process, answer questions, explain coverages, and stay in contact with the insurance company as needed.  This is one of the most significant benefits of having a local agent.

Claims Reporting

NOTE:  Notifying our agency of a claim is NOT the same as filing a claim with your insurance company.  You'll still need to contact them directly to report your claim even if you email or talk to us.

Each insurance company has their own claims practices and procedures.  Claims Adjusters are specially trained and licensed in the investigation, inspection, and determination of claims.  The following carriers have 24-hour direct claim reporting services available. Many companies also provide the convenience of reporting claims via their website, email, or mobile app.  In most cases, it is to your benefit to report your claim directly to your insurance company before contacting us. This expedites the claims handling process as they will need first-hand information only you can provide.  Prior to calling, it's helpful to have your policy number.  Feel free to call us if you have questions about coverage, the claims process in general, or if we can assist you in any way. IMPORTANT NOTE re:  Hurricane Season Claims Handling

After a hurricane or other major disaster, insurance companies handle claims on a triage basis.  Those with the worst damage are seen first.  Understandably, someone whose home is destroyed and uninhabitable would need more immedate attention than someone who only had a few screens or fencing down.  Please be patient and trust the process.  Many insurance companies also employ technology like mobile apps, texting, and drones.  Download their mobile app BEFORE a storm so you can report the claim, upload photos, and check on claims status quickly.  And be sure your insurance company has your current cell number and email address on file to expedite communicating with you.
