Winter Safety Tips - Avoiding Fire

December, January, and February are the leading months for home fires and associated deaths in the United States. Heating equipment is the second leading cause of home-fire deaths in the U.S. and the leading cause during December and January.
The Home Safety Council offers the following tips to help families prevent fire- and burn-related injuries during the winter months - even in Florida.
Keep portable space heaters at least 3 feet from anything that can burn, including bedding, furniture, and clothing.Never drape clothing over a space heater to dry.Keep children and pets away from space heaters.Never leave children in a room alone when a space heater is in use.Turn off space heaters before leaving a room or going to sleep.Install at least one smoke alarm on every level of your home and inside or near sleeping areas.Install at least one CO alarm near sleeping areas.Never use an oven or range to heat your home.Blog Home
